Paul Van Doren and his three business partners started the brand in 1966 in Anaheim, California. According to the Vans site - on the morning of March 16th, 1966, "twelve customers purchased shoes made that day" and were ready "for pick-up later in the afternoon." On that day, the Vans #44 deck shoes, now known as the Authentic, were born. The Vans Authentic really is a skating legend.
