How to Make the 2009's 'Slickest of the Slick List'
Learn How to Qualify For Sneaker of the Year

By Suzy Kassem, About.com

Want to know how to make the next list?

1. Hit My Radar

Out of sight, out of mind. It's easy to send me sneakers, press releases, links of any kind by contacting me directly via my email: sneakers.guide@about.com

2. Slickness Only

When scouring for the slickest sneaker styles, I don't look at artist or brand attachments at all. I only look at the sneaker and study its overall presentation. Sneakers can qualify quickly based on three basic factors: style, simplicity and versatility. You can take an old shoe model and simply switch up the colorway and it could easily become a contender. Don't think too hard, or too crazy. I also look at marketability. For example, will people only on the west coast or France dig these kicks, or could they be popular in numerous markets? Since this site attracts people of all countries, we want 'universal slickness'.

3. How is Sneaker of the Year Picked?

It's my job to stay on top of what is hot in the global sneaker arena. I travel constantly and scan what is out there, what people are talking about, what's on the shelves and streets. I don't simply copy and paste what others have on their blog sites. I have an opinion, one that comes certified with international cool cat approval. I have no ties to any brands, nor feel the need to prove anything to anybody, and I don't do favors when it comes to fair reporting. I make the call based on truth only, not on hype, and it will continue to stay that way. I get many emails and votes, but ultimately I make the final call.
